Giant Egg Sculpture

This colossal egg, fashioned by sculptor Marc Staples, boasts a composition of torched steel nestled within a copper framework. The egg stands at 16 inches in length, 13 inches in width, and 7 inches in height.

Production of the egg became a creative journey for the artist. Marc first welded together over 100 small steel fragments of diverse shapes. Following this, he meticulously polished the surface before employing an oxy/acetylene torch to imbue the piece with a spectrum of colors. Finally, Marc delicately ensconced the steel egg within a nest crafted from an array of copper wire gauges.

In mythology, eggs play a symbolic role in many cultures and religions. It oval shape is a symbol of fertility, eternity, and the circle of life with neither beginning nor end. In the Egyptian myth of Creation, eggs were linked to the creation of the universe, suggesting that the Earth itself may have been born out of an egg.

This lovely sculpture and much more can be seen at the Lago Luna Gallery in Buffalo Junction, Virginia. Plan a visit.
